Swap Meet time machine

Yesterday I stopped by the swap meet  like I try to do once a month or so.  Normally I end up leaving empty handed, but this trip was well worth it. I found an 80's Sony Boombox in perfect working order, a stack of LP's that were like new, and a neon green watch still in the package labeled 1984.   The best part is... It cost me $12 total.. Better than any trip to Walmart.

So last night I went through my cassettes and today I'm rocking out to the recorded radio programs from my early teen years.

80's Wrestling Star dies..

Pro wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage, 58, was killed Friday morning in Florida when the Jeep he was driving jumped a median and hit a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
His wife, Barbara L. Poffo, 56, who was in the passenger seat, was injured, the patrol said. She was expected to be released from a hospital, said Highway Patrol Sgt. 1st Class Steve Gaskins.
Savage's real name was Ralph Mario Poffo, according to the wrestling federation for which he performed. The couple lived in Seminole, Florida, authorities said.
An investigation is under way, but a Highway Patrol report said that Ralph Poffo "lost control" of his 2009 Jeep Wrangler for "unknown reasons" as it was traveling westbound on Florida State Route 694 near 113th Street North in Pinellas County.
The highway patrol report said Poffo "may have suffered a medical event; however, this cannot be confirmed until an autopsy is performed."

The oldschool way of stealing music.

Long before Bittorrent and Piratebay, we "borrowed" music by recording it onto cassette from the radio. Once dual cassette stereo's came out, we could even copy tapes from our friends...  I remember going to Kmart with my friend Brad and we would each buy a tape, then go home and copy each others..  Good thing I was underage and it was like 30 years ago.  Times have changed, but people stealing music is pretty much the same.  Ya know.. Not only do I still have several of the Records I bought as a kid, I still have several radio programs on cassette.

Something else I remember about music is how I wanted to be a DJ so bad.  We had a console stereo that I would sit in front of, play records, and announce the artist into the microphone between songs.. I have a recording of me doing this in the early 80's when I was like 10 or 11, where I even read ads from the newspaper as commercials.. what a dork I must have been.

bluelight specials

I was just thinking..  The 80's were the only time you would find fairly wealthy and middle-class girls all wearing sweat shirts/pants in public.. Proudly!  Thank Belinda Carlisle for that one, or maybe Olivia Newton John?

I think it's about time for a baggy sweatshirt revival.

I got it..

Everything is better in retrospect...
I am very much aware that the 80's were not perfect. Some of the hardest years of my life were during the 80s, but the world is worse now.  It's not about fun anymore and everyone and everything is just too serious.  Music has lost it's purpose, there's no heart anymore. Maybe to these kids it does have heart. Maybe they see something I don't.  But they're not unique, they're not creative, and they're just recycling the same sound over and over again.

Ice Ice no way baby

FYI: Ice Ice Baby was big on the radio in 1990, it does not represent the 80's.. I only point this out because it seems to be listed on about every 80's site out there.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

The Go-Go's on American Bandstand..

The styles...

These clothes seem a little silly now, but it wasn't all that long ago when we all wanted them. I wasn't exactly spoiled or wealthy, so my collection was pretty limited.. But I did have the pants..just ignore the fact that I'm on a horse, it's the pants we're talking about..
